Transfer and transport costs
Kigali is approximately 2.5 to 3 hours from Five Volcanoes by road, and Five Volcanoes is approximately 15 minutes from Volcanoes National Park Headquarters in Kinigi. Transport is separate from the official permit and depends on your plan.

Porter
Porter fees are separate unless confirmed. Hiring a porter eases the trek and supports the guest and the local community. Confirm the current local fee before trek day.
Gratuities
Gratuities for guides, rangers, porters and drivers are optional and separate. There is no mandatory amount — give according to your own judgement.
Clothing and equipment
Sturdy waterproof boots, layers, a rain jacket and gloves. Gaiters and walking sticks may be available through Five Volcanoes according to the confirmed arrangement.

What does golden monkey trekking add to the cost?
The official standard foreign visitor Golden Monkey Permit currently costs USD 100 per person. It is a separate permit and a different, lighter experience, subject to official availability, and optional within a personalised itinerary.
